A Major Mission

On the face of it, Major Housing’s goal is simple: to provide as many people as possible with access to affordable, high-quality permanent housing. But our mission goes deeper than that. We believe we have a social responsibility towards our tenants, the communities they come from and the world we all live in. 

Whereas most social housing organisations inherit a building and move tenants straight in, we control the majority of our ecosystem from beginning to end. This means we can ensure every step of the Major Housing journey stems from the same core values. From identifying suitable sites and sourcing local construction materials and resources, to designing innovative buildings according to the needs of future tenants and taking care of them once they’ve moved in. 

This is a big mission to undertake alone. Which is why our vision for the future involves more than just us. We encourage the industry to embrace partnership and collaboration to deliver more high-quality, affordable social housing together. With our commercial edge, management strengths and ESG credentials, and the entrepreneurial spirit and long-term funding of our shareholders, we believe we can build a hybrid organisation that combines the positive characteristics of social landlords with the best practice of the private sector.
